Technology and Advantages

Cancer treatment with a Gamma Knife focuses beams of radiation from 201 low-intensity cobalt sources to meet at one single point, accurate to tenths of a millimetre. The total therapeutic dose achieved at this point causes the destruction of the diseased site with minimum adverse effects on the surrounding tissue. Owing to the especially gentle treatment only minimal side-effects are observed.

Ever since the Swedish neurosurgeon Lars Leksell developed the Gamma Knife in 1968 it has been continually improved and today it has become more and more efficient, thanks to modern computer technology.

Treatment is generally carried out as an out-patient procedure. It is applied in cases of benign and malignant brain tumours, metastases, blood vessel malformations in the skull and trigeminal neuralgia.

Patients return to their doctor

We regard our practice as a centre for medical services, for both patients and professional colleagues. After treatment using the Gamma Knife, patients return to their “own” doctor to receive continuing medical support. All the necessary follow-up measures and medication are discussed with the referring doctors, who take over their patients’ continuing treatment again.

So, as the patient’s doctor you can offer your patient an extremely promising and minimally invasive, minimally stressful procedure without losing control of the patient’s treatment. And that is good for everyone.
